4/11/2023 0 Comments 1998 suzuki sidekickIll need to make a trip to st.thomas if i cant figure this out i suppose. Id buy a horse but only if a black smith in town ! LOL i have a carquest on island no test tool and 2 1/2 shops on island both which have no test tool. Same vise versa if its high, a/c, back to 800 and when crawling around town it seems to want to die when i try to ease the gas UNLESS the a/c is on, also vise versa (a/c on causes rough idle and hesitation) this is very weird to me i've been trying to find the IAC vavle in the manifold i pulled the whole thing off and i couldn't find what i thought looked like a IAC off the diagram from that sidekick troubleshooting website.(what was that link?)Īnyways give me some thoughts i live in St.John i have very limited resources here. Very Temperamental with its idle, it will idle at 1500 then after a while itll go to 800 rpm, then will start to dip down lower to about 650 but if i kick the a/c on it seems to either shoot up a second and go back to 800 or just idle out at 1500. You can also test for vacuum leaks by pinching vacuum hoses and seeing if any of them, when pinched, do not change the idle in the car (when pinched, the idle should change).Īs well as searching through the kick-fix site. If this is clogged, or the diaphragm doesn't snap back strongly, this can be removed from the car, cleaned with carb cleaner, as well as the intake and exhaust ports that are visible once the EGR is off the car. When you let go of the diaphragm, it should strongly snap back on the spindle that it rides on. You can test the EGR by pushing the diaphragm forward, and the idle should drop and the car try to stall. You can also clean the EGR (which, if clogged, will cause your car to bog). The idle should not drop, but stay constant (or rise a bit with the A/C on). You can tell if the ISC is working properly by putting a load on your engine, like the A/C, or headlights and heater blower fan. Your idle speed control (ISC) normally governs this. When you first start your car from cold, it idles high by design (usually about 1500 rpm) which should slowly drop as the car heats up. And confirm that the check engine light is on with the key in the on position, and then off once the car starts running. Also that it heats up to proper running temp (usually 195F). The first thing you need to confirm is that your car is tuned up (plugs gapped at. It can be a vacuum leak (on the 98, this will cause the car to bog), idle speed sensor dirty, EGR dirty, etc. The KickFix Repair Pages, for Sidekicks and TrackersĪlso the factory service manual (although not specific for your year car - it is for the 96 Tracker) is here:īasically, idle problems are a symptom of a problem, rather than being the problem itself. The link you are looking for is probably this: Strong engine, love this car just want her to be healthy! Had the engine rebuilt in March, had some transmission problems with slipping reverse, allthough everyother owner of a sidekick here either has the same or worse problems. ill need to make a trip to st.thomas if i cant figure this out i suppose.
